Britain Ready to Utilize Frozen Russian Assets to Fund the Ukrainian Defense
The UK is set to progress with utilizing the total value of seized Russian funds to aid the Ukrainian military campaign, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.
In a joint statement, the officials of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany asserted that this coordinated action would escalate tension on Russian President Vladimir Putin and compel Russia to engage in negotiations.
They clarified that the move would be executed in close cooperation with the America.
United Kingdom penalties have immobilized more than £25bn of Russia's assets since Moscow launched its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. But, up to this point, funds sent to Ukraine using Russian assets had exclusively been taken from earnings and returns accrued on them.
Sir Keir told Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their aim to drive progress toward using the full value of the seized Moscow's national funds to halt hostilities.
He noted that more sanctions over the next period would increase the strain on Moscow.
This announcement follows EU officials met in the Danish capital last week to consider using immobilized Russian funds for a €140 billion loan to the Ukrainian nation.
In the previous month, US President Donald Trump urged international partners to confiscate or utilize seized Russian holdings, according to reports.
The worth of frozen Russia's holdings in the European Union is estimated to be almost €211bn.

The Russian government carried out extensive missile and drone strikes all over Ukraine on Friday, causing blackouts in significant regions of Kyiv, Kyiv, and several other zones.
Several persons were fatally injured and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the attack, authorities in Ukraine reported.
In a update on X subsequent to the attack, Zelensky stated that the strategic strike targeted non-military and power facilities.
"What's needed is not empty words but decisive action - from the United States, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in supplying anti-aircraft weapons and enforcing sanctions," he wrote.
"Every sanction decision weakens Russia's war machine," Zelensky wrote, in a separate post.
In the same period, Zelensky informed media outlets he would press Sir Keir to participate in the Purl programme, under which alliance members purchase arms from the America to give to the Ukrainian forces.
While praising the UK's firm backing for Ukraine, he remarked it should demonstrate clearly that it would participate in the system, as well as impose additional measures on Moscow.
