LA Faces Historic Heat Only Days Following Major Winter Weather.
Following a week of heavy downpours that led to inundation across sections of the city, Los Angeles is now confronting abnormally hot weather for this time of year.
Record-Setting Heat
By Friday afternoon, the temperature climbed to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in downtown Los Angeles, as reported by the National Weather Service. This breaks the previous daily record for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were noted on forecast maps for the region.
Safety Advisories
Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for those at risk. Their advice included:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a hot car.

This sudden spike in mercury arrives just after a massive winter storm that battered the region last week. That system delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, leading to mudslide risks for countless residents.

Forecast Ahead
Forecasters predict cooler conditions will arrive. The heat were forecast to decrease to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by overnight.
Other locales that reached the 90-degree mark included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were expected to reach the high eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, downtown Los Angeles can expect readings in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures expected for the start of March.
