Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
