President Trump Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Devastating Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The president stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Community members assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the individual that instructors desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the government to halt asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
