American actor Pat Finn, who was seen in popular programs like "Friends", "Seinfeld" and "The Middle", has died aged 60.

The comedic improv actor passed away at his residence in Los Angeles on Monday after undergoing cancer treatment since 2022, as reported by news outlets.

"Pat saw everyone as a friend - solely future friends he didn't know yet," his relatives shared in a statement.

They added that he had "lived his life fully - with zest and passion".

An Extensive Television Career

His initial on-screen part was in the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he portrayed the titular character's brother.

He also had a regular part on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He played the part of the character Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in 1998, playing a party host known to delegate burdensome jobs to his guests.

Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, he had guest spots on several well-known programs, like:

  • "King of Queens"
  • "Friends"
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

Finn was perhaps best known for his portrayal of Bill Norwood in The Middle, featuring across eight series between 2011 and 2018.

His work in movies are "It's Complicated" and "Santa Paws 2".

Beyond the Screen

Beyond his on-screen roles, Finn was an improv performer and also taught at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.

He was part of a comedy group of six named Beer Shark Mice.

"He coached, befriended and mentored countless students during his career and it's nearly impossible to find a person anyplace who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

In a tribute, colleague and actor Richard Kind said there was "nobody more kind, gentle, and humorous, grounded individual you could encounter".

"Consistently upbeat, helping you be funnier and better. A wonderful father and man," he posted publicly.

The actor is leaves behind his spouse Donna, three children, and his parents and siblings.
