Known as a father of five children, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.
She told the moments before the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
In a statement, a senior official said that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
