The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.
His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
