Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Fan Response

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… sort of.

“There are some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
